Who We Are and What We Do

Lost Sheep

Over 65,000 men and women are incarcerated in New England jails and prisons. They are lost, lonely, harassed and helpless. They are desperate for a way to change their lives.

Thousands will be released to our communities this year. We expect that somehow they will find jobs, raise families and become productive citizens. The sad fact is most of them will be back in jail within a year or two.

The mission of New England Prison Ministries is to rescue these lost sheep- to help released prisoners stay out of jail.

The Journey Begins Inside

Building a new life on the outside is like building a new house. It takes time and it begins with a firm foundation.

The house built on sand washes away in the first storm. The house built on the rock survives even the most violent storms.

The rock is Jesus Christ. The foundation is the Gospel, the Good News of forgiveness, grace and redemption for the lost lonely and helpless.

A changed life means a change of heart, and a change of heart comes only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Then Comes the Hard Part

“Pray for me, Mark. I’m leaving in a couple of days and I’m terrified.”

It’s not easy to start a new life from ground zero. The bureaucratic, economic, emotional and social obstacles can be overwhelming. Most prisoners will begin life on the outside with no friends, no job, no resources and no hope.

Their needs are huge- housing, jobs, medical care, recovery… Many agencies and ministries are working to meet these needs.

Why Don't We See More Results?

The answer is simple- life is more than a job, a bed, and a driver’s license. As hard as we work to supply survival resources for released prisoners, we fail to address their spiritual, social and emotional needs.

The encouragement and support that come through relationship can make the difference between success and failure.

New England Prison Ministries is committed to helping released prisoners through relationship. Love never fails.

Our Program

Faith- NEPM is a Christian ministry committed to the idea that successful lives are built on a firm foundation. That foundation is Jesus Christ.

  • Evangelism and discipling inside prison walls.

Action- A released prisoner’s needs are real and often overwhelming. We aim to provide a platform for healing by helping to meet those needs.

  • Safe, affordable housing.
  • Job search assistance

Relationship- Relationship is our classroom. Love is our curriculum.

  • Christian Mentoring programs for released prisoners.
  • Drop-in centers for encouragement and direction during the first weeks of release.

Our Approach

We serve the prisoner. We help released prisoners stay out of jail.

It’s all about relationship. Everything we do, we do through relationship. Personal involvement and commitment are the essential ingredients of our ministry.

Saving lives one at a time. We work one-on-one to help real people solve real problems.

Faith is the foundation. The Bible is our program. Faith is the glue that holds it all together.
