Connecticut State Police will work with the city of Bridgeport to “de-escalate and prevent retaliation” after a shooting outside a local courthouse Monday. Police have made several arrests in the case.
A spokesperson for the city of Bridgeport said four four people were shot at while they were in a car outside Bridgeport Superior Court. Three passengers ran into the courthouse, and the driver stayed in the car. All were taken to the hospital.
“This is not something we take lightly. We don’t tolerate this. No homicide, no shooting is going to go unanswered in this city by the Bridgeport Police Department,” said Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim.
Bridgeport Police Chief A.J. Perez said the shooting wasn't random. They're investigating if it was connected to a homicide that took place in the city Sunday night.
“We do not tolerate anything like this in the city of Bridgeport. Tonight this city’s gonna be locked down, and we’re gonna protect the good people who live in this city. We do not tolerate this sort of behavior in Bridgeport, Connecticut.”
A spokesperson for the city said victims’ injuries were not life-threatening.
