The Cranwell resort in Lenox, Massachusetts, is getting a makeover and laying off about 45 employees in the process.

Hyatt Hotels purchased Cranwell in 2017. As part of a renovation estimated to cost roughly $70 million, the resort is laying off some employees while work is completed.

While the current Cranwell is a high-end hotel for visiting the Berkshires, General Manager Victor Cappadona said the new property will be more of a wellness retreat.

Cappadona said it will offer programs from "equestrian experience to archery, hatchet throwing, pottery, crafts, yoga, mindful meditation, and many, many things that just weren't part of the old environment."

Cappadona said the laid-off employees can apply for jobs at the new resort, which is scheduled to open in June.
