Eversource Files Northern Pass Appeal – Again – Ahead of May Hearing

Eversource has filed a new version of its request for a new hearing on its proposed Northern Pass transmission line.

The state Site Evaluation Committee, or SEC, is already scheduled to discuss the utility's appeal on May 24.

But the committee hadn't yet put out its formal, written denial of the project the first time Eversource made that request, in February.

So the utility’s new filing Fridaytakes the written denial into account. But Eversource spokesman Martin Murray says the basic idea is the same.

"It's really the failure of the SEC to consider conditions that could cure the concerns that the SEC expressed,” he says.

If the SEC doesn't want to re-open the case, Eversource could appeal directly to the state Supreme Court.

Murray also says Eversource wasn’t aware that groups who support Northern Pass planned to ask this week for two SEC members to be removed from future hearings on the project.

He says the utility doesn’t plan to comment on that request. The SEC also has not responded.
