NEPR Hosts a Special News & Brews Event Focused on the Region's Casino News

On Tuesday, June 19, New England Public Radio and the New England News Collaborative will host "Springfield's Big Gamble," a lively discussion with some of the region's top reporters on the casino beat. This special edition of the public radio station's News & Brews series will be held at Valley Venture Mentors in downtown Springfield (Tower Square, 1550 Main Street, Suite 125).

"These casinos are such a huge news story for Springfield, East Windsor, and the whole region. And it's an incredibly complicated story -- with plenty of winners and losers," said Sam Hudzik, news director at New England Public Radio. "I'm excited we're able to bring together some brilliant reporters who know this issue inside and out and have a real community conversation on what lies ahead."

The event begins at 5:00 p.m. and will feature a conversation moderated by John Dankosky, executive editor of the New England News Collaborative and host of the radio program and podcast NEXT. There will be plenty of time for audience questions and community discussion.

Panelists include:

  • G. Michael Dobbs, managing editor, The Reminder newspapers;
  • Frederick Hurst, publisher of An African-American Point of View
  • Kristin Palpini, reporter, Berkshire Eagle
  • Mark Pazniokas, capitol bureau chief, The Connecticut Mirror

Suggested donation: $5. Snacks and beverages provided. Space is limited. Register at nepr.net
