Senators Warren, Markey Want Sandisfield Pipeline Halted

Both Massachusetts U.S. senators are calling on federal regulators to halt a natural gas pipeline project in southern Berkshire County.

In a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey said the agency should reconsider the project, as requested by residents of the Town of Sandisfield.

FERC granted the request for a rehearing last year, but hasn't acted on it because it doesn't have enough sitting members on the board right now. The senators said, if that's the case, permission shouldn't have been given to the company Kinder Morgan last week to start the project in Otis State Forest.

The New York-to-Connecticut pipeline has been the source of many appeals and legal challenges by opponents and Kinder Morgan.
