A Massachusetts legislative committee charged with recommending changes to the state's marijuana law holds its final public hearing in Boston Monday. And one of the state's U.S. senators is urging lawmakers to respect the will of the people.
Senator Elizabeth Warren said she was in favor of the ballot question legalizing recreational marijuana. She said she understands there are a few things that do need to be addressed by the legislature.
"Safety, for example, about research, about concentration, about how to determine when someone is driving under the influence," Warren told NEPR on Thursday.
But, Warren said, at the end of the day, "The vote was pretty clear on marijuana and I think the state legislature needs to follow the people."
State lawmakers seem intent on making at least some changes, as at least 90 marijuana-related bills have been filed in the legislature.
The committee is looking to make its final recommendations in June.
