The state of Massachusetts has announced how much tax money communities with retail pot shops received for February, March, and April.
In the western part of state, Northampton led the way. It got more than $530,000.
Northampton's mayor, David Narkewicz, said that while the money is welcome, it doesn't mean the city is swimming in cash.
"If we didn't this marijuana revenue, we'd probably have a significant deficit this year that we'd have to be talking about cuts or a tax override, so it has helped us in that regard," he said. "The challenge is it's not enough that going to fix the larger structural problem with education funding at the state level."
Great Barrington received more than $225,000 and Easthampton got $163,000.
Municipalities can also get up to an additional three percent of sales through a community impact fee.
