A UMass Amherst fraternity has been indicted following incidents that led to a student being hospitalized for alcohol poisoning last year.

A Hampshire County grand jury chargedthe Theta Mu chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, with two counts of providing a minor with alcohol and two counts of hazing. The fraternity faces fines of up to $10,000.

In a statement following the indictment, UMass said it has suspended the fraternity and is considering dissolving its recognition of the chapter. The university is also reviewing the conduct of individual students for possible sanctions under the student code.

The national Pi Kappa Alpha organization said in a statement that the local chapter has been "administratively suspended" and called the charges "greatly concerning."
