American Masters: How it Feels to Be Free

This documentary tells the inspiring story of how six iconic African American women entertainers —Lena Horne, Abbey Lincoln, Nina Simone, Diahann Carroll, Cicely Tyson and Pam Grier — challenged an entertainment industry deeply complicit in perpetuating racist stereotypes, and transformed themselves and their audiences in the process.

Carey Larsen is a member of the Marketing, Events and Communications team. She is primarily responsible for creating and managing emails sent to members of the NEPM community. For WGBY, she was the development coordinator, pledge producer, volunteer coordinator and email marketing manager. Prior to that, she was the general manager of the Pioneer Valley Symphony. Carey is a professional musician. She serves as soprano soloist at the First Church of Christ in Longmeadow.
