Virtual Event Monday, October 18 at 7 p.m.
The Mark Twain House, Museum and Noah Webster House and West Hartford Historical Society present a discussion about Americanon: An Unexpected U.S. History in Thirteen Bestselling Books. Author Jess McHugh will talk with Peter Sokolowski, editor at large for Merriam-Webster (and one of the hosts of NEPM’s Jazz à la Mode.) Americanon explores the true history of thirteen of the nation’s most popular books. Overlooked for centuries, our simple dictionaries, spellers, almanacs, and how-to manuals are the unexamined touchstones for American cultures and customs.
