As deadlines near for mayoral hopefuls to officially declare their candidacies, incumbents in several western Massachusetts communities are not seeking reelection.

Mayors Richard Cohen in Agawam, Karen Cadieux in Easthampton and Richard Alcombright in North Adams will leave office after their current terms. Those elections are drawing a lot of interest, according to city officials.

Prospective candidates in North Adams have until Aug. 7 to turn in signed nomination papers. Candidates in Agawam and Easthampton have a few more weeks to get their paperwork in order.

Some of the region's largest cities will not have mayoral fields during this year's municipal elections.

Mayors in Chicopee, Greenfield, Pittsfield and Springfield were elected to four-year terms in 2015.
