Sen. Franken Donations Given Away, But Those From Rep. Conyers? Not Yet

There's no word yet from the Massachusetts Democratic Party on what it plans to do with money it received years ago from Congressman John Conyers.

The Michigan Democrat announced his retirement Tuesday following allegations of sexual harassment, which he denies.

After Minnesota U.S. Senator Al Franken faced sexual harassment allegations last month, many Democrats said they'd give the money they got from Franken's political action committee to charity.

Congressman Conyers's PAC has been less active than Franken's, but he made a couple donations to New England Democrats.

In 2007, Conyers gave $2,000 to the Massachusetts Democratic Party. Asked repeatedly in recent weeks if the party plans to return the money, a spokeswoman offered no comment.

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter of New Hampshire received $2,000 from Conyers's PAC in 2010.

In an email, Shea-Porter spokeswoman Marjorie Connolly said the congresswoman is "pleased" Conyers has resigned, but said "there is no money left in the account from the 2010 cycle."

Connolly said Shea-Porter, who is not running for re-election, does not plan to make a symbolic donation using other money in her campaign account.
