UMass Amherst football player Andy Isabella could make school history in this year’s NFL draft.
The former Minuteman wide receiver is considered the 30th-best prospect in this year's draft, according to sports site Pro Football Focus.
Former UMass head coach Mark Whipple said he expects Isabella's work ethic to translate well to the NFL.
“I know that no matter where he goes, he’ll be prepared, and he'll work as hard as anybody in the receiver room,” Whipple said.
Isabella could be the first UMass player since 1968 to be drafted in the first round, and the first drafted overall since 2016.
The Ohio native led the country in receiving yards in 2018, and tied for third-fastest 40-yard dash in this year's NFL Combine.
“I think Andy — he's just different than those guys. He’s just faster. He’s been fast his whole life, and now he’s honed his skills,” Whipple said.
UMass quarterback Ross Comis and running back Marquis Young are also eligible for the draft this year.
The first round of the draft begins Thursday in Nashville.
