Architectural firms competing for a contract to design a minor league baseball stadium in Worcester will pitch their proposals to city officials this week.
Seven companies submitted plans for a baseball park that will host the Red Sox's Triple-A team, which is moving from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to Worcester.
Among the firms seeking to design the new stadium are the ones that planned Dunkin Donuts Park and the XL Center renovation in Hartford, and the one that designed Springfield's federal courthouse.
Worcester City Councilor Morris Bergman said he wants a ballpark with modern features, but a not-too-modern look.
“It should look like it’s always been there,” Bergman said. “That’s always to me the telltale sign of a successful architectural project. It looks like it fits in, and always was there.”
The proposals come about a month after the City Council approved a $100.8 million stadium financing package.
Companies bidding for the contract will interview with city officials on Wednesday and Thursday.
