Gaming revenue at MGM Springfield last month was the lowest it’s been since opening, according to figures released Friday from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
The casino delivered about $4.9 million in taxes to the state for the month of January. That’s down from the $5.4 million in taxes the casino generated in December.
Total revenue has seen a mostly downward trend since MGM opened its doors last August. This is the first time it’s reported monthly revenue of less than $20 million, at $19.7 million.
The slots payout continues to perform well, an indication the casino may be trying to attract and hold gamblers.
Mike Mathis, who runs MGM Springfield, says they continue to gain what he called “valuable insights” on the market as the casino’s business strategy evolves.
