MGM Springfield's revenue lagged somewhat in its second full month of operation.

The casino says it was an exciting past month while new marketing efforts got underway.

But October revenue overall was down from the previous month, at around $22 million. That's about $5 million less than September.

A drop isn't unusual in a casino's first months. It happened for MGM's Maryland casino a couple years ago, too.

Mike Mathis, who runs MGM Springfield, said in a statement there's "solid volume" while the business brings what he calls energy and enthusiasm to the downtown area:

We continue to experience solid volume throughout the property. October was an exciting month for us as we expanded our gaming promotions and added dynamic programming in our outdoor Plaza. We are extremely proud of the energy and enthusiasm our casino, restaurants, retail outlets, bars and lounges have brought to downtown Springfield, and to the area’s economy. We will continue to see growth in the marketplace as we become the destination of choice for everyone in the region and look forward to our first holiday season, bringing a new distinct caliber of entertainment to the New England market.

The state reaps a 25 percent tax from the casino. In October, it got $5.5 million dollars, down about a million and a half from the month before.
