Pamyua

Pamyua
Pamyua, formed in April 1995 by brothers Phillip and Stephen Blanchett, emerged from a unique fusion of Inuit drum and dance melodies with R&B vocal styles and arrangements. This innovative concept sparked their journey, and the duo quickly began performing across Alaska while collaborating with like-minded artists.
By the end of 1995, Ossie Kairaiuak joined the group permanently, followed by Karina Moeller in the spring of 1996. Today, this dynamic quartet works with world-class musicians from both Alaska and Denmark, traveling globally to share their one-of-a-kind blend of cultural harmony.
Pamyua’s performances celebrate Inuit culture through a powerful combination of music and dance, using the stage as a platform to share indigenous knowledge and history. Their style reimagines traditional Inuit melodies with contemporary vocalizations and instrumentation, often described as "Inuit Soul Music." In this way, Pamyua has carved out its own distinct genre.
The band members take great pride in representing Indigenous culture, believing that music and dance can foster unity. Through their work, they expertly interpret Inuit traditions with joy and authenticity, creating a powerful connection with their audiences. Their performances have become a source of pride for Alaska’s indigenous people and resonate deeply with all who experience them.
Pamyua’s shows honor indigenous traditions, blending ceremony, song, and dance to preserve and share the rich cultural heritage of the Inuit people.
