Listen Thursday, March 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on NEPM 88.5
Tune in Thursday to hear music selected by NEPM Classical Music hosts Steve Petke and Walter Carroll in honor of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, who was born on March 18, 1844. He started taking piano lessons and wrote his first composition when he was just 10 years old. He had perfect pitch and went to lots of operas and concerts. But, since almost all the members of his family either had a naval or army background, he chose to follow a military career. He joined the College of Naval Cadets in St. Petersburg, which is where he met a local teacher who drew him back to music.
