Self-Evident Education is joining the nationwide Fall of Freedom movement with a documentary double feature and participatory discussion. The screening will feature two short films — If Knowledge is the Key and Freedom’s Battle at Christiana — exploring how race and racism were intentionally built into the early U.S. legal system and legacies of that history. If Knowledge is the Key explores the story of a bi-racial woman in 1600's Virginia and her suit for freedom. Freedom’s Battle at Christiana, produced for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, tells the story of an organized and armed resistance to the Fugitive Slave Act. A discussion moderated by Michael Lawrence-Riddell, Self-Evident's executive director, Ibrahim Ali, Self-Evident Organizational Strategist, and Professor Ousmane Power-Greene will follow.
