Ron Carter Quartet

Ron Carter Quartet

Ron Carter is among the most original, prolific, and influential bassists in jazz. He has recorded over 2,200 albums, and has a Guinness world record to prove it! Over his 60 year career, he has recorded with so many of the jazz greats: Lena Horne, Bill Evans, B.B. King, Dexter Gordon, Wes Montgomery, Bobby Timmons, Eric Dolphy, Cannonball Adderley and Jaki Byard to name a few. Carter has authored numerous books, including his autobiography, “Finding the Right Notes,” scored and arranged music for many films, appeared in countless jazz documentaries including Ken Burns “Jazz,” “Birth of the Cool” about Miles Davis and "It Must be Schwing," the story of Blue Note records. Carter, known in the jazz world as “The Maestro” has received six honorary doctorates, won multiple Grammy awards, and awards from institutions around the globe for his indelible contributions to jazz and education.

Pianist Renee Rosnes is one of the premier jazz pianists and composers of her generation. Upon moving to New York City from Vancouver, Canada, she quickly established a reputation of high regard, touring and recording with such masters as Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Hutcherson, J.J. Johnson, James Moody, and legendary bassist Ron Carter. She was a charter member of the all-star ensemble, the SFJAZZ Collective, with whom she toured for six years. Rosnes has released 17 recordings, appeared on many others as a sideman, won five Juno Awards, and is also the Musical Director of ARTEMIS.

Drummer Payton Crossley began gigging at the age of twelve and at twenty became a member of the legendary Ahmad Jamal Trio. He has performed with such notables as Nina Simone, Stan Getz, Hank Jones and Ron Carter. He has been a member of Ron Carter’s bands since the late 1990s.

Saxophonist and educator Jimmy Greene has recorded numerous albums as a leader, including Grammy-nominated Beautiful Life (Mack Avenue, 2014), and over 75 albums as a sideman. Greene has toured and/or recorded with Horace Silver, Ron Carter, Tom Harrell, Freddie Hubbard, Harry Connick, Jr., Avishai Cohen, Kenny Barron, Lewis Nash, Dee Dee Bridgewater, the New Jazz Composers Octet and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, among many others. In addition to the many awards he has won for his artistry and compositions (including the prestigious Benny Golson Jazz Master Award at Howard University), he is Associate Professor of Music and Co-Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT.
