Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts Premiers Jorgensen Digital Stage with Midsummer Music

Jorgensen Digital Stage is making its debut with a new series: Midsummer Music. The Lenard Chamber Series is presenting three live-streamed Dover Quartet concerts at 4 pm on July 14, 21, and 28. The Dover Quartet will be delivering 60-minute performances live from Vail, Colorado. Each performance will be followed by a live Q&A session with the quartet. Audience members will be able to submit questions and hear the responses from the quartet in real time. Tickets can be purchased on the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts website.

Hollywood Park: Music and Words with Mikel Jollett

NPR Music’s Bob Boilen speaks with Mikel Jollett about his New York Times bestselling memoir Hollywood Park which details Jollett’s troubled childhood, escaping from the infamous Synanon cult and growing up to discover his voice as a musician and writer. Boilen and Jollett will also discuss the companion soundtrack to Jollett’s memoir, performed by his own band, The Airborne Toxic Event. The conversation will be presented live on NPR Music’s Youtube channel Wednesday, July 15 at 3 p.m.

In response to the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, Great Performances brings back Mark Levin’s film adaption of Anna Deavere Smith’s play, “Twilight: Los Angeles.” In her powerful one-woman theater piece, Anna Deavere Smith, who interviewed hundreds of people involved in the 1991 Rodney King beating and the violent aftermath of the 1992 verdict “becomes” some 30 real-life characters.

Parlor Room Home Sessions: Tracey Grammer & Jim Henry

With the mission to stay connected through music during the COVID-19 pandemic, Signature Sounds presents yet another Parlor Room Home Session. Tracey Grammer and Jim Henry will be playing tribute to Dave Carter, the songwriter with whom Grammer performed and recorded, from 1996 until his death in 2002. Grammer and Henry have been playing Carter’s songs together since 2003. The performance will be live streamed on July 18 at 9 pm.

Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Drive-In

Get up from your couch and enjoy a socially distanced and safe movie showing at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center. The Drive-In theater will allow viewers to stay safe in their cars, with movie audio through radio. Upcoming showings include the movie 42 on July 16 at 9 pm and Raiders of the Lost Ark on July 17 and 18 at 9 pm. To ensure safety, tickets must be purchased beforehand, on mahaiwe.org or through the Mahaiwe box office at 413-528-0100, Wednesday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
