Mayoral Elections, Paramilitary Policing, Casino Study: The Short List

First up in our news roundup this week: We get the thoughts of our panel aboutthis week's mayoral elections across western Massachusetts, and we ask them how long they think mayors should serve. Voters in Westfield said at the ballot box it should only be for two years at a time, but many other places have switched to four-year terms.

We also take a look at the rise of paramilitary policing in western Mass. The Valley Advocate reports some communities are training officers to use military tactics in certain situations. And what about the financial implications?

And we wrap up by talking about a recent study out of UMass, which looks at the people visiting Plainridge Park Casino, the state's first casino, and what it might mean for MGM Springfield.
