We start The Short List this week with former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and his possible political aspiration: a run for president in 2020.
Patrick told KCUR Radio in Kansas City that launching a presidential campaign was on his "radar screen," but he was still thinking about it. This comes as Massachusetts U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, another Democrat, has long been rumored as a possible candidate. Could that be a factor in Patrick's decision making process?
Also this week, the mayor of Lawrence, Massachusetts, Daniel Rivera, said Secretary of State Bill Galvin is upset with him over the mayor's backing of Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim, who is running against Galvin in this year's Democratic primary. Rivera alleges Galvin told him "I made you mayor." Is Galvin feeling the heat of a rare challenge from within his own party?
And there have been a flurry of filings with the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court over a deal between the Berkshire Museum and the state attorney general's office. The museum and AG reached an agreement allowing a planned sale of part of the museum's art collection, but the high court's approval is needed. Some opponents feel such a sale is flawed and illegal. Do they still have a chance to block it?
