Among news items this week, a study revealed out-of-state students have an easier time of getting into UMass Amherst than students from Massachusetts.
The report from the Pioneer Institute found that since 2010, high school grade point averages and SAT scores for out-of-state students are lower than those from Massachusetts. A UMass spokesman said out-of-state students have increased as a way to offset stagnant state support for the university.
Meanwhile, Massachusetts regulators could start issuing licenses to marijuana businesses as soon as Tuesday. There are a lot of steps to gain that OK, but regulators said they are ready to go. While the approval process continues, some communities are trying to decide if recreational marijuana sales are for their towns.
With Massachusetts Democrats set to gather this weekend in Worcester at their convention, one of the party's candidates for governor is trying to explain why he had a restraining order taken out against him more than 20 years ago during a divorce. Bob Massie said he posed no physical threat to his ex-wife and children.
And with all the paperwork filed for prospective Massachusetts legislative candidates, we take a look at some of the races for the state House and Senate that might not have gained a ton of attention.
