The MGM Springfield casino has been open a week, and casino officials say they did a brisk business during their first three days.
MassLive reports MGM drew 150,000 people to town during that time.
While the casino is open, one part of the project is yet to be completed: 54 market rate apartments near the resort. The Springfield City Council gave MGM an extention on the plan, and the chair of the city council's casino committee said he's skeptical about another delay. MGM says it remains committed to the project.
Tuesday, September 4, is primary election day across Massachsuetts. There are contested races for the Democratic and Republican nods for governor.
In the GOP race, incumbent Charlie Baker, whois one of the most popular governors in the country, faces challenger Scott Lively. On the Democratic side, Jay Gonzalez and Bob Massie are looking to move to November. And one poll says both have struggled with fundraising and name recognition.
And in western Massachusetts, there are several contested primaries for state legislative seats. One big one: the Democratic race for the seat formerly held by state Senate President Stan Rosenberg of Amherst. Rosenberg resigned just two days after the candidate filing deadline, leaving only one name on the ballot. Three others are mounting write-in campaigns, but say educating voters about how to vote for them has been a process.
