MGM Springfield Revenues Up In May

The MGM casino in Springfield, Massachusetts, saw an uptick in total gambling revenues last month.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission says the casino took in a little over $22 million in May.

That's up from April, but a bit below the average of the first eight full months of operation.

The head of MGM Springfield, Mike Mathis, has acknowledged the casino's revenues were coming in below expectations.

After the May numbers came out, Mathis said in a statement, "we continue to be pleased with our performance. We're capturing market share and growing loyalty."

That market share could be impacted when a new casino opens in Everett on Sunday.
