Anti-Semitic symbols have been discovered at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.

Eight swastikas were drawn on the walls of academic buildings at Smith. The college says campus and local police are investigating.

Justin David, Rabbi of Northampton's Congregation B'Nai Israel, said the appearance of anti-Semitism in his city doesn't leave him shocked or surprised but "I'm disturbed. Anti-Semitism is a human problem. It exists everywhere and among all people, so it can happen everywhere."

David said Smith should be commended for a quick response. The college held a series of events Friday to support students, faculty, and staff.

The president of Smith, Kathleen McCartney, said in a statement she condemns "in the strongest terms this act of hatred and cowardice"... and that she is sickened and angry.
