2nd Walk for Peace

2nd Walk for Peace

This Walk for Peace seeks an end to war and violence wherever it may occur, and stands with all those who suffer as a result of war.

LEVERETT, MA, September 10, 2024 — The Village of Light Ashram is sponsoring a second Walk for Peace on Sunday, October 6, 2024 that is meant to include everyone. It is a testimony of the heart to seek an end to war and violence wherever it may occur, and to stand with those who are presently suffering in Israel, Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, and elsewhere.

War involves loss for everyone, and we stand with those who are grieving, no matter where they are. The Walk for Peace will begin and end with prayers for peace, and chanting for peace will take place along the way.

“Peace without and peace within are two parts of the same thing," said GurujiMa, the Village of Light Ashram’s spiritual teacher. "There is no lasting peace that can take place until human beings know how to seek and find peace within themselves and aspire to do this. As long as superior strength and a show of force are thought to be the guarantors of peace, the world will continue to be embattled, for its peace will be based on fear and dominance, rather than on the peace that reigns within."

The Walk for Peace begins at the Leverett Elementary School at 11:00am on Sunday, October 6, 2024 (with participants asked to arrive at 10:45am), and ends at the Village of Light Ashram, a distance of 1.6 miles with an estimated time of 45 minutes. Those who feel they cannot walk for the entire time can ride in one of the cars that will be accompanying the walkers.

Afterward, attendees can enjoy light refreshments and Music for Peace by Onatah and Friends from 12:00–1:30 PM. Remarks will be shared by Sister Clare Carter of the New England Peace Pagoda and GurujiMa of the Village of Light Ashram.
