Aging in Place: A Health and Awareness Fair
The South Hadley Council on Aging will be holding a HEALTH FAIR Open and free the public on Tuesday, June 14th 9-3 for vendors and 5-7pm for demos and presentations.
AGING IN PLACE: A HEALTH AND AWARENESS FAIR
The South Hadley Council on Aging will be presenting seniors with comprehensive information on a variety of aging in place topics. From proper nutrition to support services available to caregivers.
Attendees can stroll between 30 plus vendors who will have information, handouts and will answer questions. Groups from WestMass Eldercare to the South Hadley TRIAD group, to include SHINE, Hearing services, Mass Commission for the Blind, a local dental office, Hospice, Home alarm businesses, Valley Eye Radio and many, many more.
These organizations will be available in the main area of the Senior Center from 9am-3pm.
There will be raffles, free coffee and tea and the café will be open for purchase of light snacks.
The evening portion of this daylong event will be the focus of continued support for community.
From 5:15 -5:45pm – Denise Barry will present a demonstration on Tai Chi. Denise has been hosting a very successful program at the Senior Center for several years.
At 5:45, COA Executive Director, Leslie Hennessey, will address the group with information on the Caregiver Respite Grant. This grant is a partnership between the South Hadley COA and WestMass Eldercare. The grant provides financial assistance for 16-20 hours of paid, respite support for families who are caring for a South Hadley older adult with Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia.
To conclude the evening, at 6:00pm, Karen Buscemi, PMH-NP, will present a program, to include a Q&A. The topic will be Identification and Treatment of Common Mental Health Disorders in the Older Adult.
