Book launch -- Protesting with Rosa Parks: From Stagecoaches to Driving While Black
Sponsored by the David Ruggles Center for History and Education, this event celebrates the publication of "Protesting with Rosa Parks," by Florence resident John K. Bollard. This book recounts the experiences of over 95 passengers who, like Mrs. Parks, refused to give up their rights and their seats for almost 200 years on stagecoaches, trains, steamboats, streetcars, buses, planes, cars, and even elevators and a bus station shoe shine stand. Following selected readings and a discussion moderated by Professor Ousmane Power-Greene of Clark University, the author will be pleased to sign books for those who would like to purchase them. The event is free and refreshments will be available.
