Creolizing Architecture of the Whole-World: Fort-de-France and Zanzibar

Creolizing Architecture of the Whole-World: Fort-de-France and Zanzibar

Talk by Garth Myers, Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professor of Urban International Studies at Trinity College

This talk examines Fort-de-France, Martinique and Zanzibar, Tanzania. The story of architecture in these two cities illuminates how relationality and creolization can be assets for urban society, but in politically strangled contexts like Martinique and Zanzibar, it is difficult to build creolizing cities that are just, liberated, and ever-changing for the betterment of ordinary people.
