This week, embattled Massachusetts state Senator of Amherst resigned amid mounting pressure after a scathing ethics report came out.
The report alleges Rosenberg demonstrated poor judgment and failed to protect the Senate from his husband, Bryon Hefner. Hefner is facing sexual assault and other criminal charges. Months ago, Rosenberg gave up the Senate presidency when news of the scandal first broke.
Also, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker will face a primary challenge as he runs for re-election this fall. Springfield minister Scott Lively received more than 27 percent of the vote at the Republican state convention. Lively is a Trump supporter who has a fiercely anti-gay track record.
Finally, according to a poll from Western New England University, more Springfield residents are feeling positive about their hometown. Compared to a similar poll from eight years ago, fewer people see public safety as Springfield's biggest issue, and a lot of those polled think the city's economy will be better in five years than it is today.
