SPRINGFIELD, MA (September 28, 2020) Michael Lyle, Jr. has been named the new weekend host for NEPM 88.5 FM. Listeners will hear his voice on Saturday and Sunday mornings during NPR’s Weekend Edition. In addition to dispatching the latest local news, weather and sports updates, Mike will be producing original local stories.

I'm really excited he's beginning this expanded role — and for all the great stories and interviews he's going to share on NEPM.”
Mike joined the New England Public Radio news team in early 2019. Before that, he was News and Sports Anchor/Reporter and Producer for AM 1220 WQUN in Hamden, Connecticut, and Weekend News Anchor at WTIC-AM 1080 in Hartford, Connecticut, where he will continue to work part time. He is a four-time recipient of the Connecticut AP Broadcasters Association award and a two-time recipient of the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists Award.
Mike was born and raised in New Jersey and has lived in New England for over a decade. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and a master’s degree in Journalism from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT.
Mike serves as the Vice President of Broadcast for the Southern New England Association of Black Journalists, an affiliate chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists, which was honored in 2015 as the Professional Chapter of the Year. He is a member of the faculty of Quinnipiac University where, as an adjunct instructor, he is teaching "Introduction to Blackness in the Media" this fall.
