The Springfield, Massachusetts, City Council will hold a hearing on electricity costs Thursday. That’s after constituents complained their bills went up.
The meeting will allow councilors to question representatives from Eversource, which supplies electricity to Springfield residents.
City Councilor Marcus Williams scheduled the hearing.
"You can’t just hit people out of the blue, especially in the midst of a pandemic, with crazy increases," he said. "Folks are seeing $90 increases in their bills. And folks who have fixed incomes — that’s not reasonable."
Eversource said the rate it charges for electricity supply actually went down recently.
But spokesperson Priscilla Ress said its customers have been using a lot more of it versus prior years.
