NEPM Videographer Nominated for Two Boston/New England Regional Emmy Awards

NEPM Videographer Ross Lippman

SPRINGFIELD, MA (May 5, 2021) New England Public Media’s Ross Lippman has been nominated for two Boston/New England Regional Emmy® Awards. Lippman, a videographer/editor for NEPM’s Connecting Point, was nominated in the “Arts/Entertainment News” category for his piece "Springfield's Say Their Names Mural" which aired in the weeks after George Floyd’s murder in the spring of 2020. Lippman documented the three days it took for a mural commissioned by Springfield’s Martin Luther King Jr. Family Services Center to be painted. The mural honors those who have been killed during encounters with police officers in the last year. Lippman spent three days on site, talking to the artists, community leaders and residents in the wake of Floyd’s murder as the mural went up in the Mason Square neighborhood.

“This recognition of Ross’s work on Connecting Point by our peers in the industry is an incredible honor,” said Tony Dunne, Connecting Point’s executive producer. “His story on Springfield’s “Say Their Names” mural exemplifies the heart and soul of our mission at New England Public Media — to explore the humanity of the people who make up the communities that we serve. We couldn’t be more proud of Ross, and are thrilled that he’s a key member of the Connecting Point storytelling team.”

Lippman has been a videographer/editor for NEPM’s Connecting Point since 2019. Over the last year he has made highlighting stories surrounding racial justice issues a priority. Lippman was recognized by the Boston/New England Emmy Awards in 2019 when he was nominated in four categories.

“I can’t think of a time in my life when journalists needed to rise to the occasion more than this past year,” said Lippman. “Between the COVID-19 pandemic, and our nation confronting racial injustice, I hope stories like "Springfield’s Say Their Names Mural" can be a small part of a much bigger conversation. I’m grateful to NEPM for allowing me to pursue stories that take many days to develop, but go deeper, and as a result have so much more value to our communities in western New England.”

Lippman was also nominated in the “Video Journalist No Production Time Limit” category for a composite of his Connecting Point stories.

The 44th Boston/New England Emmy Awards Virtual Ceremony will be held on June 26, 2021.
