For the third year in a row, maple syrup production in Massachusetts was at an all-time high.

A federal survey found the state's sugarmakers produced 7,000 more gallons this year than last year.

Massachusetts Maple Producers Association Coordinator Winton Pitcoff said the weather helped. Warm temperatures in January and February started the season off. Colder temperatures in March allowed production to continue into April.

"It was a very good season, it was a very long season. When the sap did run, it made for some excellent syrup," said Pitcoff.

In Shelburne, the Davenport Maple Farm had fewer taps this year, but still saw an increase in production.

Maegan Senser runs the farm with her husband.

"We did have actually another record season for the number of customers served in our sugaring season. We had a record year last year and we broke that by over 100 customers this year," Senser said.

Massachusetts ranks eighth among maple syrup-producing states.
