Brynn Cartelli, 15, of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, takes part in the Live Playoffs on "The Voice" on April 16, 2018.

A high school student from western Massachusetts performed on a national TV program Monday night, trying to win a singing competition.

Brynn Cartelli, 15, is a freshman at Longmeadow High School.

She made it to the finals of the NBC show "The Voice" with her rendition of "What the World Needs Now Is Love."

Her father, Damon Cartelli, said he's incredibly proud.

"There's over 40,000 people that try out for this show," he said. "I can tell you there's not a bad singer in the group, especially now that we're in the top four. Everyone's phenomenal. So in my eyes, she's already won."

The public votes for their favorite among the four finalists. The winner will be announced Tuesday night.

Before joining New England Public Media, Alden was a producer for the CBS NEWS program 60 Minutes. In that role, he covered topics ranging from art, music and medicine to business, education and politics.
