Small and midsize Connecticut aerospace companies are once again planning to make their presence felt at Europe’s largest air show this summer.

The Farnborough Air Show begins this week, featuring some 1,500 exhibitors from 52 countries. It's expected to attract more than 200,000 visitors.

Eight Connecticut companies will make the trek, exhibiting at a stand sponsored by the state. One of them is Windsor’s Aero Gear, which designs and manufactures gears and gearbox assemblies for jet engines.

President of the company Doug Rose said it’s their 12th year visiting the show.

“You go there to brand yourself as a global player in the aerospace industry, and make personal connections," he said. "It’s just a wonderful way to be there with our colleagues from Connecticut both to promote our companies individually, but also promote the Connecticut aerospace cluster as a place to come to to get aerospace components manufactured.”

The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development said in past years, local companies have attracted $461 million in sales from attending the show.
