Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren has acknowledged that Democrats face an uphill battle opposing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, but said they've won similar fights in the past.
“It was almost exactly a year ago right now, when enough people across this country had raised their voices, that the United States Senate, by one vote, decided not to repeal the Affordable Care Act,” she said. “Stop for a minute and reflect on what that said about the people.”
Democratic senators defeated the so-called “Skinny Repeal” last summer with the help of three Republicans: Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and John McCain of Arizona.
The numbers have shifted slightly since then.
Now, if Kavanaugh's confirmation vote happens before the midterms, just one GOP senator could tip the scale.
Democrats have raised red flags on Kavanaugh's consumer rights record and his broad views on executive power.
Republican leaders argue he's a highly qualified candidate with the right temperament for the job.
