A ban on plastic water bottles originally set to take effect on New Year's Day in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, has been pushed back until the spring.
Last May, voters in the Berkshire County town decided to prohibit the sale of single-use plastic water bottles starting in January.
A resident then gathered signatures to try get the ordinance rescinded. At a second town meeting in August, the ban was upheld.
But anti-bottle activist Wendy Kleinman said because the fate of the new law was up in the air, the start date was delayed until May 2019.
"We felt that we should give a little bit more time -- particularly we're thinking of the merchants -- to be able to make adjustments," she said.
