Homicides In Springfield, Massachusetts, Up Slightly In 2018

There were 18 murders reported in 2018 in Springfield, Massachusetts, according to police data.

Springfield, Massachusetts, saw a slight increase in murders this year compared to last year.

The number of homicides reported in Springfield reached 18 murders in 2018, according to police data. The previous year's total was 14 murders.

Homicides in the Springfield Police Department's count include a 33-year-old man who died from gunshot injuries December 24.

It also counts all three victims whose bodies were found in the Page Boulevard home of Stewart Weldon. Weldon was charged for those alleged killings in August.

A Springfield Police Department spokesman said crime statistics show a 45 percent drop in overall crime over the five years ending in 2017.
