Investigators for the Massachusetts Gaming Commission have "preliminarily found Encore to be in compliance" with state rules and regulations for the card game blackjack.
At its meeting Thursday, the Gaming Commission discussed a lawsuit filed against Encore Boston Harbor alleging that the new casino, run by Wynn Resorts, cheated players out of money by paying out "blackjack" at 6-to-5 odds rather than at 3-to-2 odds.
Bruce Band, assistant director of the commission's Investigations and Enforcement Bureau, said commission gaming agents reviewed the claims and have initially found that the new casino is not violating the commission's rules.
The suit also alleges that Encore withholds winnings from slot machine players by paying out only whole dollar amounts at voucher cashing stations. Band said gaming agents determined that Encore could make that information -- and the fact that vouchers can be paid out in full elsewhere — more visible to players.
