A heat wave is set to hit the region, according to forecasters.

Meteorologists are warning the public of a New England heat wave they predict will be in full swing this weekend.

Temperatures Friday and through the weekend are reaching well into the 90s.

Bill Simpson of the National Weather Service in Norton, Massachusetts, said what's really dangerous is the dew point, which measures humidity and pressure.

A dew point of 70 is uncomfortable, Simpson said. In western Massachusetts, it could reach 73.

“Today is kind of a wakeup call for what’s going to happen over the weekend, and we really strongly suggest if you have to do any outside activities, make it in the morning,” Simpson said Friday. “By this time [Saturday], it could be potentially pretty dangerous.”

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for all counties in Massachusetts except for Berkshire, and for all of Connecticut.

With the humidity, temperatures could easily feel above 105 degrees.
