In Westfield Mayoral Race, It'll Be A State Senator Vs. A Police Captain

Updated at 10:04 p.m. on September 24, 2019

Preliminary election season in western Massachusetts is over. Voters in five western Massachusetts cities cast ballots in mayoral races. Those non-partisan contests narrowed each field to two candidates heading into the November 5 general elections.

In three of those cities — Chicopee, Greenfield and Westfield — the incumbents are not seeking re-election. Sitting mayors in Pittsfield and Springfield are on the ballot.

The election season began on Tuesday, September 10, with preliminaries in Greenfield and Springfield. Voters in Chicopee and Pittsfield got their say the following week, on September 17. Westfield rounded out the calendar with a September 24 preliminary.

Connecticut cities, including Hartford, held local primary elections on September 10. Check out the politics coverage from our partner station, WNPR.
