3 Democrats, 2 Republicans Win Connecticut Legislative Seats In Special Elections

Members of Connecticut's House of Representatives were sworn in on January 9, 2019. Two new members will be sworn in after winning special elections on Tuesday

Three Democrats and two Republicans have won seats in the Connecticut legislature following a series of special elections. 

In the 3rd Senate District, South Windsor Democratic Mayor M. Saud Anwar defeated East Windsor Republican Sarah Muska on Tuesday for the seat was vacated by Sen. Tim Larson, now director for Higher Education.

Democratic State Rep. Derek Slap defeated three other candidates to with the 5th Senate District that covers West Hartford, Burlington, Bloomfield and Farmington.

Republican Gennaro Bizzarro defeated Democratic state Rep. Rick Lopes to win the 6th Senate District for Berlin, Farmington and New Britain.

In the 39 House District, Democratic New London City Councilor Anthony Nolan beat out three other candidates.

In the 99th House District, Republican Joseph Zullo defeated Democrat Josh Balter for the seat that represents East Haven.
