Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont suggested he will slow down the timetable to fully reopen bars in the state.
Bars and restaurants can currently serve people indoors at half-capacity, and with social distancing rules in place. They had been set to reopen to full capacity in mid-July. Lamont now suggests otherwise.
“I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I think the bars are gonna have to take a pause right now. I’m just looking around the rest of the country, and I’m seeing it’s pretty infectious in there. I see Texas, I see Florida, southern California all closing down bars. And I’m learning from that.”
Connecticut is only one of four states on track to contain its COVID-19 outbreak, along with Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont. Bars were set to reopen as part of the state’s Phase Three Reopening plan. Lamont said a decision will be made next week.
