Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has criticized the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for recommending a pause of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccinations.
Lamont said the CDC call for the pause is an overreaction considering the odds for the potential of blood-clotting. That’s been reported only six times in nearly 7 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine given.
“I would have handled it differently and I let them know that,” Lamont said.
He said the pause will make it harder for the state to convince vaccine-hesitant residents that COVID-19 shots are safe.
“We’ve had a lot of vaccines, a lot of people have gotten vaccinated. Now we are trying to get those that are a little more hesitant to get vaccinated and the CDC sent out a signal that was unhelpful,” Lamont said.
State officials said Pfizer and Moderna will provide Connecticut with more doses of their vaccines to help make up the difference.
