MORE ABOUT “UNMUTING”
This brave and powerful piece, offered through JDPP’s Project’s Stepping Out program focuses on the complicated road to discovering voice and being heard within carceral settings and after returning to the community. First-person stories from lived experience break open issues of incarceration through spoken word, dance, and song that movingly portray questions of confinement, choice, separation from family, accountability, and freedom. The performance is scripted and directed by JDPP Artistic Director Judy Dworin and features community members who have returned from prison and JDPP artists. They collectively bring the voices of those impacted by incarceration into public view, inviting the audience to engage in dialogue, expand awareness, activate constructive change, and understand art as a gateway to healing.
Nova Linea Contemporary Dance is Wisconsin’s premier contemporary dance company. Known for their emotionally-provocative performances, it is Nova Linea’s mission to provide accessible and relatable stories through dance to the communities it performs for. Through a physically expressive movement style, Nova Linea aims to guide audiences through compelling stories, themes, and emotions, provoking thought and reflection.
In this evening of dance, Nova Linea will present "some wounds never heal". Choreographed by Artistic Director Jared Baker, this piece delves into the emotional landscape of loss. Exploring the depth of human emotion, "some wounds never heal" examines how grief shapes and changes us, posing profound questions: How do we pic ourselves back up and continue moving forward? How do these life-altering events leave their mark on us, both physically and emotionally? This piece not only reflects personal pain, but also emphasizes the importance of community, compassion, and empathy in the healing process. It highlights how shared experiences of loss can forge deeper connections between individuals, fostering a collective resilience. This moving performance invites the audience to engage with their own experiences of grief and to find solace in the understanding and support of others.

This Valentine’s Day, give the most precious gift of all: your loving attention and calm presence.
In this heart-opening two-hour Restorative Contact workshop, you and your partner will be gently guided through a mindful touch practice that nurtures connection, trust, and intimacy. We will work slowly, with care and respect for our body as well as our partner's, as we learn to listen through the skin. Using light compression, we’ll discover new points of connection, finding places to rest, breathe, and relax together. Touch has profound effects on emotional, physical, and cognitive wellbeing, increasing the “happy hormones” dopamine and serotonin, as well as oxytocin, the “love hormone” that deepens bonds.
This workshop is non-sexual and open to all couples—romantic or platonic—seeking to deepen their connection through physical touch and mindful attention. It is accessible to students who can be on the ground for extended periods of time, however, many adaptations can be offered and the practice uses supportive props for comfort. No prior movement or meditation required. If you have questions about whether this practice is right for you, please reach out to Gabrielle at info@restorativecontact.com.
