The race for Berkshire County district attorney has been rekindled. The current DA, Paul Caccaviello, announced he's mounting a write-in campaign for November. That and more news from the week on The Short List.
Attorney Andrea Harrington beat Caccaviello by three percentage points in the September 4 Democratic primary. Caccaviello, who was appointed district attorney in March, said he's heard from many who didn't or couldn't vote for him in that race that he should give it another shot.
Also this week, we learned more about an incident involving a black UMass Amherst employee who had police called on him while he was walking from the recreation center to his office. It's similar to an incident over the summer at Smith College, when a student taking a lunch break from her job on campus had police called on her.
A couple with homes in both New Hampshire and Belchertown, Massachusetts, is facing charges in New Hampshire that they voted in both states in the 2016 presidential election. Grace Fleming told New Hampshire Public Radio it was an "honest mistake," but she and her husband John face up to 14 years in prison if convicted.
